Boat rental in Sicily: sailing yacht, catamaran or motorboat — where to start, how pricing works and how to choose.
Sicily is one of the Mediterranean's most rewarding places to charter a boat: over 1,000 km of coastline, three island groups (the Aegadian, Aeolian and Pelagie Islands) and marinas that put you within an hour of open water. This 2027 guide walks you through the three decisions that matter: which boat, which port and what budget.
Which boat is right for your crew?
The sailing yacht: the authentic choice
If you want to cover real distance between the islands, a sailboat is hard to beat. Our fleet sails from Palermo, Trapani and Marsala, taking groups of up to 10 — a sailing yacht of about 36 feet is the sweet spot for a first charter. From Trapani you are at the gateway to the Aegadian Islands; from Marsala, Favignana and the Stagnone lagoon are within easy reach.
The catamaran: space and stability
More deck, more stability, happier kids. Our catamarans take up to 10 guests and depart from Capo d'Orlando, one of the closest marinas to the Aeolian Islands.
The motorboat: maximum coves per day
When the plan is three swim stops before lunch, go for power. From Portorosa, our motorboats (up to 8 guests) are the ideal base for Vulcano and Lipari.
The best departure ports
- Palermo: international airport on your doorstep; departures to Ustica and the Cefalù coast.
- Trapani and Marsala: under an hour's sail to Favignana, Levanzo and Marettimo.
- Portorosa and Capo d'Orlando: the fastest routes to the Aeolian Islands.
What does a Sicily boat rental cost?
The rate depends on boat type, size, season and included services (skipper, equipment). For the full breakdown (fuel, security deposit, marina fees), read our boat rental costs guide — or ask us for a quote and we'll reply with the exact rate for your dates.
Do you need a boating license?
It depends on the boat and engine power — the rules are explained in our article on renting a boat without a license in Sicily. No license? You can still charter with a skipper.
When should you book?
July and August go fast: book in winter for the best choice. May, June and September mean warm water, fewer boats and lower rates — see when to book your boat rental.
